Calvinism Reloaded

In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of His glory" (Ephesians 1:11-12). Recently, I visited a church where the name of Christ was not mentioned at all. In fact, the preacher's sermon very seldom mentioned God. It was a man centered message devoid of the supernatural work of God in saving sinners from the eternal wrath of God. The sad thing is, much of American Evangelicalism is filled with this "Christ-less" preaching. Much of Evangelical preaching today has more in common with an entrepreneurial informerical than historic Christianty. Much of contemporary Protestantism is rampant with self-help commericalism and is entirely devoid of the glorious cross of Jesus Christ. True, Biblical Christianity is about the glory of God and how God sent His only Son to die on the cross for our sins and rise again from the dead. True Christianity is about the centrality of the Cross of Jesus Christ and our own inability to save ourselves. We are justified by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone and for the glory of Almighty God alone. True and authentic Christianity is all about God and His glorious grace, which He bestows upon those who utterly do not deserve it. Authentic Christianity is about God and not us. We need to flee from man centered commericalism and return to the Bible and the glory of God. This is why I am a Calvinist, because I believe that Christianity is all about God and His glory and not at all about us.
